About HARDEO SAKICHAND

About Hardeo Sakichand

Greetings! My name is Hardeo Sakichand, and I am a proud farmer residing in the heart of East Bank Essequibo at Black Water Trench in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. My roots run deep in this vibrant land, where the lush landscapes meet the winding rivers that define our way of life. As a farmer, I cultivate not just crops but also a sense of community and connection to my ancestors who once tilled this very soil. It’s a humble existence, but one filled with the rich flavors of our local cuisine, from the spiced rice and fish to the iconic pepperpot that brings families together during festive occasions.

Living in Guyana, I find joy in the diverse tapestry of cultures that shape our nation. Here, Hinduism, practiced by a significant portion of our population, intermingles with other faiths and traditions, creating a unique cultural blend. I often reminisce about our communal gatherings, where stories are shared over a plate of roti and curry, and laughter echoes through the air. It’s these moments that remind me of the love and resilience that define us as a people, even as we navigate the challenges of modern life.

As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I feel a strong connection to those who have ventured abroad in search of new opportunities. I cherish their stories of longing and hope to visit our homeland one day, to reconnect with our heritage and perhaps catch a glimpse of the Essequibo River, a symbol of our enduring spirit. I believe that through our shared experiences and culinary delights, we can keep the bond of our culture alive, no matter where we may roam.
