Welcome! My name is Eunita Harris, and I proudly call Creek in the Barima-Waini region of Guyana my home. Growing up in this vibrant community, I have always been surrounded by the rich culture and natural beauty that our country has to offer, from the breathtaking views along the Pomeroon River to the lively atmosphere of local markets filled with fresh fruits like golden apples and sour sop. Guyana, with its diverse heritage and warm-hearted people, truly holds a special place in my heart, even as we continue to grow and develop.
As a resident, I cherish our unique traditions, especially when it comes to food. Whether it's savoring a plate of pepperpot during the holiday season or enjoying some fried plantain at a local eatery, these flavors bridge the gap between generations and connect us to our roots. I am also deeply aware of the challenges our nation faces, as highlighted by visitors who may have experienced only a glimpse of what Guyana is about. I believe that by sharing our stories and showcasing the beauty of our landscapes and people, we can encourage a greater understanding and appreciation for our homeland.
Maintaining strong ties with the diaspora is important to me. I often find joy in hearing from fellow Guyanese abroad, who reminisce about their childhood memories in places like River Grant and Hackney Canal. Together, we can uplift our community, foster connections, and work towards a brighter future, celebrating the resilience and spirit that make us uniquely Guyanese.
Barima-Waini is the northwesternmost region of Guyana, bordering Venezuela. Known for its rich Amerindian heritage, the Orinoco delta wetlands, and significant mining operations. Population center is Mabaruma.
