Hello! I’m Harris Williams, a proud farmer from Dove Island in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery and flowing rivers characteristic of our land, I’ve developed a deep connection to the soil and the rhythms of agricultural life. Here, we cultivate a variety of crops, from rice to cassava, and I take pride in contributing to our local economy while honoring the traditional farming practices passed down through generations.
Living in Dove Island has afforded me the beauty of our vibrant culture, where every meal is a celebration of flavors. Whether it’s savoring a plate of pepperpot during Christmas or enjoying a hearty serving of labba stew—despite some friends’ apprehensions about the taste—food brings us together. It reminds me of the spirited gatherings with family and friends, where we exchange stories and laughter, often while sitting by the Pomeroon River, just like many of my neighbors do when they're reminiscing about home.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections we maintain with our roots, whether through social media or community events. It’s heartwarming to see people recognize Guyana as part of South America, and I look forward to sharing our unique culture and heritage with the world.
