Hello! I’m Harsha Hemrup, a proud resident of Bank Essequibo, located in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of Guyana has deeply influenced my appreciation for our unique heritage. From enjoying the mouth-watering flavors of traditional Guyanese Chinese dishes—widely regarded as the best—to relishing the warmth of our community gatherings, my roots are a constant source of joy and inspiration. Whether it’s a plate of pepperpot or some fresh fish curry, the culinary delights of my homeland will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Living in Philadelphia, I cherish the connections I have with the Guyanese diaspora. The camaraderie among fellow Guyanese, whether at cultural events or simply sharing stories about our homeland, reinforces the strong sense of belonging we carry, no matter the distance. I love hearing anecdotes about experiences in Guyana, like the amusing ways people pronounce names like Essequibo, which never fails to bring a smile to my face. It's these little connections that help keep our culture alive, even far from home.
