Hello! I’m Haymant Persaud, a proud labourer residing in the scenic Manaka Compound along the Essequibo River in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region. My life is deeply connected to the vibrant culture of Guyana, where community spirit and love for one another thrived, especially during the simpler days of the early 90s. I cherish the camaraderie of my neighbors and the warmth of our gatherings, where we share stories and food that reflect our diverse heritage—from pepperpot to cook-up rice.
Growing up in Lower Pomeroon, I’ve seen how the land shapes our lives and the resilience we exhibit. From Cashew Hill to Grant Friendship, the bonds we forge in these familiar places are unbreakable. My work as a labourer not only supports my family but allows me to contribute to the growth of our community, reminding me daily of the importance of hard work and dedication. Yet, I can’t help but reflect on the changes our country has undergone over the years, and how we must strive for a better future while holding onto our rich past.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I deeply appreciate the connections we maintain with our roots. Whether it’s through traditional celebrations, cooking recipes passed down generations, or stories shared across borders, I am committed to carrying forward the legacy of our people. Each experience, from the quiet banks of the Pomeroon to the bustling markets, fuels my passion for life, and I look forward to sharing these moments with both old friends and new acquaintances.
