Hello! I’m Helen Miguel, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast, living on 111 First Street Housing in Pomeroon-Supenaam. My roots run deep in the vibrant culture of Guyana, where the rich tapestry of ethnic diversity is celebrated in our daily lives. Growing up amidst the warmth of my community, I have always cherished the unique heritage of the Indo-Guyanese, which has greatly influenced my identity. The aromas of fresh roti and curry wafting through the neighborhood remind me of our shared traditions, while our bustling local markets brim with the fruits of our land, like guenepas, which bring back fond memories of childhood. I feel a strong connection to our diaspora, particularly in Richmond Hill, New York, where so many of our people have forged new paths while honoring our roots.
As I navigate life here in Guyana, I aim to foster connections and share the stories that shape us.
