Greetings! I am Hemrannie Itwaru-Durga, a dedicated teacher based on the beautiful Essequibo Coast, specifically in Middle Street Block A, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in the Land of 6 Nations, I embrace the rich cultural diversity that our vibrant country offers. From the tantalizing flavors of pepperpot and roti to the rhythmic sounds of chutney music at local gatherings, my roots shape not just who I am but how I connect with my students and community.
As an educator, I believe in nurturing the minds of our future generations while instilling a sense of pride in our unique heritage. I often share stories about the lush landscapes of the interior savanna, the hilly sand regions, and the coastal plains that define our remarkable geography. I aim to create an inclusive classroom environment that celebrates our history and the strength of our cultural bonds, as exemplified by the enduring friendships between the various ethnic groups in Guyana.
Although I now reside on the Essequibo Coast, I feel a deep connection to the Guyanese diaspora around the world. I cherish the stories of those who have left our shores, carrying pieces of our culture with them. Whether it's through the warm embrace of a Guyanese grandmother or the shared laughter over a plate of cook-up rice, I strive to remind my students that our culture is a treasure meant to be celebrated and passed down.
