My name is Hemwanttie Outar, and I proudly call Coast Demerara my home. Nestled in the vibrant heart of Guyana, this region is steeped in rich culture and tradition. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and the flowing waters of the Demerara River, I’ve been deeply influenced by the warmth of our community and the rich heritage that comes from our diverse roots. From the aromas of curry and roti wafting through the streets to the sound of laughter during family gatherings, the essence of Guyanese life is something I cherish dearly.

Living in a country that straddles both South American and Caribbean identities, I appreciate our unique position in the world. Guyana is not just a place on the map; it represents a blend of cultures, languages, and traditions. I take pride in our historical connections to the Caribbean, evidenced by our participation in the Caricom treaty, which binds us to our Caribbean neighbors. Whether it’s sharing a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or enjoying an afternoon at the local market in Georgetown, these experiences define what it means to be Guyanese.

As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the significance of community and connection.
