About HELENA HENERY

About Helena Henery

Greetings! My name is Helena Henery, and I proudly call Baramita in the Barima-Waini region my home. This beautiful area is known for its lush landscapes and vibrant communities, where every smile and greeting reflects the warmth of our culture. Growing up here has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our rich heritage, from the sweet melodies of our folk music to the delicious flavors of our local dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice. I believe that food is a powerful connector, and sharing a meal is one of the best ways to bond with family and friends.

As a resident of Baramita, I find joy in the simplicity of everyday life, whether it’s enjoying a quiet afternoon by the Pomeroon River or engaging in lively conversations with neighbors about the latest happenings. I also have a strong connection to the Guyanese diaspora, where we share a collective pride and love for our homeland, no matter where life takes us. Every New Year, I send big love to my family abroad, reminding them that no distance can diminish our shared identity and spirit.

In a world that often feels disconnected, I strive to keep our culture alive through storytelling and community involvement, embodying the essence of what it means to be Guyanese. As I navigate life's journey, I carry with me the lessons learned from my rootsβ€”lessons of resilience, unity, and an undying love for Guyana. After all, as we say, yuh skunt can't be half ah 3 things; yuh hadda be 1/3! I look forward to sharing more of my experiences and continuing to celebrate the beauty of our nation.
