About ANGELA HENRY

About Angela Henry

Hello! I’m Angela Henry, a proud farmer from Baramita in the Barima-Waini region of beautiful Guyana. Rooted in the rich, fertile lands of our country, I dedicate my days to nurturing the earth and growing a variety of crops that embody the spirit of our diverse culture. From cassava and plantains to the freshest fruits, my farm is a testament to the vibrant flavors that make Guyanese cuisine so beloved. Whether it’s cooking a warm pot of pepperpot during the holiday season or sharing a plate of cook-up rice with family and friends, food is an integral part of our lives.

Living in Baramita, I draw inspiration from our stunning landscapes, including the majestic Kanuku Mountains and the winding rivers that shape our community. The stories of my ancestors resonate with me as I work the land, reminding me of the traditions and values they passed down. I often think about how our experiences here connect us to the wider diaspora, from those reminiscing about home across the seas to the lively conversations we share about our love for Guyana—even in the face of jokes about our reputation, like the infamous Jonestown tragedy. Yes, we're more than that—we’re resilient, proud, and deeply connected to our roots.

As I continue to cultivate my farm, I cherish the connections I make, both locally and within the diaspora. Whenever I get a chance, I enjoy visiting Surinamese restaurants to celebrate our shared Caribbean heritage because, let’s admit it, not embracing those culinary delights would be a crime! I invite you to join me on this journey to celebrate the beauty of Guyana, our culture, and the importance of nurturing not just the land but our community as well.
