About MARY HENRY

About Mary Henry

Hello! My name is Mary Henry, and I'm a proud farmer from the lush landscapes of Mazawini in Barima-Waini, Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the vibrancy of our local culture, I’ve always been connected to the land. The fertile soils here not only produce some of the finest crops but also nourish our close-knit community. I often spend my mornings tending to my fields, where I grow cassava, plantains, and rice, staples that remind me of home-cooked meals shared with family and friends. You can often find me preparing a hearty plate of cook-up rice or pepperpot, enjoying the flavors that have been passed down through generations.

As someone deeply rooted in my heritage, I cherish the stories of our people—the tales of the mighty Kaieteur Falls and the serene beauty of the River Macquero. These landmarks hold a special place in my heart, representing the strength and resilience of our Guyanese spirit. I also find joy in connecting with the diaspora community, sharing experiences of life in the heart of the rainforest, and discussing everything from our favorite local dishes to the unique pronunciations of our beloved landmarks. Whether it's reminiscing about St. Monica or the laughter shared over a good meal, my roots run deep.

Through my work as a farmer, I aim to contribute to the sustainability of our community and preserve the traditions that define us. I'm passionate about showcasing the beauty of Guyana, from the vibrant markets filled with fresh produce to the rich culture that binds us all together—whether at home or abroad. Join me in celebrating the warmth and resilience of our Guyanese heritage as we continue to nurture our connection to the land and to each other!
