Greetings! My name is Hilton Cornette, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. As a labourer, I engage in the hard work that keeps our community thriving. I have deep roots in this vibrant region, where the lush landscapes and rich cultural heritage are as diverse as our people. Our community is a blend of Afro-Guyanese, Indo-Guyanese, Amerindian, and Chinese cultures, creating a unique environment that I cherish deeply.
One of my favorite aspects of Guyanese culture is our incredible food. From the spicy pepperpot to the sweet and savory Chinese dishes that have become staples in our homes, the flavors reflect our rich heritage. Nothing beats the joy of sharing a meal with family and friends, whether it’s at a local cookout or during festive celebrations. I believe that food connects us all, and I hope to see future generations savoring these culinary delights as we continue to embrace our traditions.
While I recognize the challenges our country faces, I remain hopeful for a brighter future for the next generation in Guyana. As we navigate these times, I hold on to the belief that our resilience and strong community ties will help us thrive.
