As a dedicated Dorm Mother, I foster a nurturing environment for our young minds, guiding them through their educational journeys while sharing stories of our rich Guyanese culture. From the lush landscapes to the sounds of the river in the early morning, every moment is a celebration of who we are.
Growing up in a community where the aroma of pepperpot and cook-up rice fills the air during festivities, I carry these flavors into my interactions with the students. Every chat over a plate of fried plantains is an opportunity to connect not just with our local culture but also with the vibrant diaspora that stretches from London to Brooklyn. Whether we're reminiscing about the Upper Pom River or enjoying a laugh over the pronunciation of “Guyanese,” I cherish these moments that bind us together.
