Greetings! My name is Hyotice Elcock, and I proudly call Bank Essequibo Reserve 363 North in the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery and rich biodiversity of the Essequibo River has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our unique environment and culture. Whether it's enjoying a plate of pepperpot on Christmas morning or gathering with family for a good laugh over a game of dominoes, these moments are what truly shape my Guyanese identity.
As a resident of this beautiful land, I cherish the stories and experiences that connect us, not just locally but across the diaspora. Like many Guyanese, I often find myself reminiscing about the sweet sound of our Creole language, the vibrant colors of our markets, and the warmth of our community spirit. I love sharing the lesser-known tales of our country, as many outside may not realize that Guyana is the only English-speaking country in South America, and perhaps one of the most underrated gems in the Caribbean.
Whether it's discussing the significance of our landmarks like the majestic Kaieteur Falls or laughing at the mispronunciations of our local river names, I am committed to fostering a clear understanding of our heritage. My goal is to celebrate our diversity while encouraging fellow Guyanese to stay true to themselves, especially in the face of globalization. After all, we are more than just a spot on the map; we are a unique blend of cultures, united by our love for this land we call home.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
