About IMRAN KARIM

About Imran Karim

Welcome! My name is Imran Karim, and I proudly call the quaint village of River Two Friends Settlement in Demerara my home. Nestled within the lush landscapes of Essequibo Islands-West Demerara, I embrace every bit of our vibrant culture, from the aroma of freshly cooked cook-up rice to the lively sound of steelpan music during our local festivals. As a resident of this beautiful region, I value community gatherings that bring us together, whether it's a Sunday afternoon at the market or a family cookout by the canal.

Guyana is on the cusp of remarkable transformation with the discovery of oil, promising a skyline filled with skyscrapers reminiscent of cities like Dubai. However, while our future looks bright, I remain deeply connected to our rich history and cultural identity. The stories of our ancestors, especially the Indo-Guyanese who migrated during the political upheaval from 1964 to 1992, resonate in my heart and remind me of our strength as a community. We are more than just a mix of cultures; we are a reflection of resilience and pride.

Outside of my work, I love sharing the flavors of Guyanese cuisine with friends and family, often whipping up classic dishes like salt fish and bake. I believe food is a bridge that connects our diverse backgrounds, and I enjoy exploring recipes that tell our story. Whether you’re a local or part of the diaspora, I welcome you to join me in celebrating the rich heritage of our homeland.
