Hello! I’m Iona John, a proud resident of the picturesque Essequibo Supenaam Creek in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Rooted in a vibrant culture, I find joy in the rich traditions of my homeland, where the aroma of pepper pot and dahl puri fills the air, especially from Linda's on Church Avenue. While the friendly rivalry with our Trinidadian neighbors is all in good fun, there’s no denying that Guyanese cuisine holds a special place in my heart, and I’m always ready to share a plate of cook-up rice and fried fish with anyone willing to indulge!
Living near the serene Baracaro Island, I’m continually inspired by the breathtaking landscapes and the lush biodiversity surrounding me. The rivers here tell stories of our ancestors and the ongoing connection we have with nature. I cherish the sense of community and camaraderie among my fellow Guyanese, whether we are gathering to celebrate Mashramani or engaging in spirited conversations about our beautiful Essequibo region. It’s a reminder of where we come from and the strength of our cultural heritage.
