Hello! My name is Irene Dass, and I am proud to call the Essequibo Coast my home. Living in the charming Richmond Housing area of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I embrace the natural beauty and warmth of our community. Although I have never traveled to the beautiful village of Berbice, I cherish the stories of my heritage passed down through my family. It reminds me of the peaceful simplicity of Guyanese village life, where the sun shines brightly all year round and friendships bloom like the vibrant flora of our lush landscape.
As a clerk, I've dedicated myself to serving my community and fostering connections that transcend borders. The incredible diversity of our people is mirrored in our cuisine; from the delectable pepper pot to the rich influences of our various ethnic backgrounds, food is a celebration of our shared experiences. I love reminiscing about the flavors of home, especially the warmth of gatherings where we share not just meals but stories and laughter, reflecting the spirit of our intertwined lives.
Even though many of us in the diaspora feel a longing for Guyana, there’s a unique pride in our identity that travels with us, wherever we go. I enjoy engaging with my fellow Guyanese, exchanging memories and insights, and reminding each other that our roots run deep, no matter the distance.
