Hello! I’m Gilbert Jacobs, a proud farmer from Baramita in the beautiful Barima-Waini region of Guyana. My life revolves around the lush landscapes of our countryside, where I cultivate a variety of crops that reflect the rich agricultural heritage of our nation. Whether it's cassava, plantains, or sweet potatoes, I take pride in contributing to our local food culture. There’s nothing quite like the joy of sharing a hearty meal with family and friends, especially when it’s prepared with fresh ingredients from my own farm!
Growing up, I was surrounded by the vibrant community of Baramita, where neighbors become family and every gathering is an opportunity to enjoy our traditional dishes. I often recall the flavors of my childhood—pepper pot, roti, and the famous Guyanese cook-ups that bring everyone together. It’s no wonder my friends often tease me, saying, "Take your coat and hat off, stay for a while!" because they know once I start cooking, we’ll be dining together for hours, savoring the warmth of good food and great company.
As someone who has also experienced the diaspora, I understand the longing for home that many of my fellow Guyanese feel while abroad. I look forward to connecting with others who share my passion for our culture, whether through reminiscing about our cherished landmarks, like the Pomeroon River, or sharing recipes for our favorite dishes. No matter where we are in the world, the spirit of Guyana lives on, and I’m excited to be part of that journey!
Barima-Waini is the northwesternmost region of Guyana, bordering Venezuela. Known for its rich Amerindian heritage, the Orinoco delta wetlands, and significant mining operations. Population center is Mabaruma.
