Greetings from Essequibo! My name is Jaideo Ramgobin, and I proudly call the lush landscapes of Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Growing up surrounded by the vibrant culture and traditions of Guyana, I have a deep appreciation for our unique blend of indigenous, African, and East Indian influences. Whether it's enjoying a plate of pepperpot at a family gathering or savoring a sweet homemade cassava pie, my culinary roots are a significant part of who I am. I believe that food is not just sustenance but a celebration of our diverse heritage.
Living in a country where the rich rainforests meet the flowing rivers, I find inspiration in our natural beauty and landmarks like the Essequibo River and the stunning Kaieteur Falls. These places remind me of the resilience and spirit of our people. Although many of my fellow Guyanese have ventured abroad in search of opportunities, I remain committed to contributing to our community and witnessing the growth that lies ahead, especially with the promising oil revenues that could reshape our future.
As a resident of Guyana, I cherish the connections we maintain with the diaspora. Regardless of where life takes us, the love for our homeland remains strong. While the perceptions about our country can sometimes be harsh, I take pride in advocating for the cultural richness that defines us and in fostering a sense of belonging among those who share our stories, whether near or far.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
