Greetings from East Bank Essequibo, where the rhythm of life flows like the nearby Pomeroon River. I’m Jaipaul Persaud, a proud resident of the squatting area known for its vibrant community spirit and resilient people. Our bond with the land is deep-rooted; whether it’s gathering around for a meal of flavorful pepperpot, sharing stories by the banks of River Bat Creek, or celebrating the cultural richness that defines our heritage, I cherish every moment spent here.
As a Guyanese, I take great pride in our diverse traditions that weave together the influences of our indigenous peoples, as well as African, Indian, and other cultures. From the lively rodeos that showcase our equestrian skills to community gatherings rich with local music and dance, there’s a unique charm that brings us together. I often reminisce about my childhood adventures along River St. Chad's Mission, which are filled with laughter and camaraderie.
Though I currently reside in Guyana, I feel a strong connection to my fellow Guyanese in the diaspora. We, who share the same cultural roots, often exchange tales of our homeland, from the vibrant streets of Georgetown to the serene beauty of the Essequibo Coast. The warmth of the Guyanese spirit transcends borders, and I look forward to reconnecting with those who understand the essence of our community and the beauty of our people.
