Hello! My name is Jairam Sankar, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast home, specifically the beautiful community of 73 Henrietta Anna in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Guyana, known as the Land of Many Waters, is a place where every river and waterfall tells a story. With over 300 waterfalls, including the majestic Kaieteur Falls, our natural beauty is something to behold. Our vibrant culture reflects the rich tapestry of our diverse heritage, where Indo-Guyanese, Afro-Guyanese, Indigenous peoples, and many others come together to create a unique national identity.
As a resident of Guyana, I cherish our traditional cuisine, especially dishes like Pepperpot, which showcases our culinary roots. This beloved dish, often enjoyed during festive occasions, connects us to our Caribbean neighbors, while also highlighting our distinct South American influence. Whether it’s sharing a meal with family or celebrating together during local festivals, the warmth and hospitality of our people are what truly make Guyana special.
Though I live in Guyana, I maintain strong ties with the Guyanese diaspora, as we share our stories and experiences around the world. It’s heartening to hear fellow Guyanese express their love for our homeland, whether it’s the sound of a familiar dialect or the taste of our local treats. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
