About JOHN JAMES

About John James

My name is John James, and I proudly call Baramita in the Barima-Waini region of Guyana my home. As a farmer, I find deep joy in cultivating the rich land that has nourished my family for generations. Baramita boasts a unique blend of natural beauty, with its lush forests and vibrant rivers, creating a tranquil setting for both work and reflection. The connection to our land runs deep here, and I strive to use sustainable practices that honor our environment and support the local community.

Having spent time in Georgetown, I’ve witnessed the bustling growth of our capital, as many Guyanese Americans return to their roots, eager to build homes and businesses. It's inspiring to see how our diaspora stays connected, whether through sharing tales of home-cooked meals prepared with fresh produce or recommending local favorites like sweet cream soda and the savory pumpkin roti that captures the heart of our cuisine. And let me tell you, there’s nothing quite like indulging in a plate of fresh-caught fish right after it’s been prepared!

As a proud Guyanese, I cherish my heritage and the diverse cultural influences that shape our nation. From the stories passed down through generations to the flavors that fill our kitchens, each aspect of our culture is vital. I invite everyone, whether from our vibrant local community or the diaspora, to embrace and celebrate what makes Guyana truly special.
