Welcome! My name is Janak Gowkaran, and I am proud to call Stewartville on the West Coast Demerara my home. Nestled in the heart of the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara region, I find inspiration in the lush landscapes and vibrant communities that surround me. Like many Guyanese, I cherish the rich diversity of our culture, which is reflected not only in our languages—primarily English—but also in our culinary delights, from pepperpot to roti and curry, each dish telling a story of our shared heritage.
As a resident of Stewartville, I feel a deep connection to the local landmarks and traditions, whether it's fishing in the Pomeroon River or enjoying the vibrant festivals that celebrate our Indian, African, and Indigenous roots. Those of us who have ventured abroad often reminisce about the warmth of our people and the sound of laughter echoing through the streets during festivals. It's heartening to see our diaspora communities, whether in Trinidad, Fiji, or elsewhere, united by love and respect for our homeland while sharing their experiences through platforms like YouTube.
