Hello! I’m Jasmattie Persaud, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast, living on 31 Mandir Street in Maria's, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in this vibrant region, I have always been surrounded by the rich beauty of our landscapes, from the flowing waters of the Pomeroon River to the lush greenery that defines our countryside. Each day, I feel fortunate to call this place home, where the spirit of community and warmth of the people are as abundant as the delicious local cuisine we cherish, from pepperpot to metemgee.
As a local, I take great pride in the cultural heritage that we share. Whether it's celebrating the joyful festivals that bring our communities together or savoring the best food Guyana has to offer, I always emphasize the importance of our roots. I often hear, “Guyana got the best food,” and I wholeheartedly agree! The flavors and traditions of our dishes are a connection to our ancestors, and I enjoy sharing them with friends and family, especially those in the diaspora who carry our culture in their hearts, no matter where they are in the world.
In my daily life, I seek to foster connections with others, embracing the stories and experiences that make us uniquely Guyanese. I believe that our shared experiences, whether it’s reminiscing about River Katowro Wakapau or the vibrant streets of St. Monica, help bridge the gap between the homeland and the diaspora. Together, we celebrate our past while looking forward to a bright future for Guyana.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
