Greetings! I’m Jeneffer Drakes, a passionate teacher from the beautiful Essequibo Coast, nestled at 148 Cave Street in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My journey through education is deeply intertwined with my love for the vibrant culture and rich history of my homeland. Growing up in a country that has faced its share of challenges, I have witnessed firsthand the resilience of the Guyanese people, who strive every day to build a brighter future amidst a backdrop of lush landscapes and diverse communities.
In my classroom, I bring the essence of our culture to life, sharing stories of our beloved landmarks like the Essequibo River and the majestic Kaieteur Falls. We often celebrate traditional Guyanese cuisine, from the savory pepperpot to the sweet satisfaction of a slice of black cake, instilling pride in our heritage. I believe it’s crucial for my students to understand their roots and the strength of our diverse identities, which include influences from our Indigenous peoples, African ancestry, and East Indian heritage.
