Hello! I’m Jerena Baksh, a proud resident of Coast 53 in Lima Housing Scheme, situated in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up here, I’ve always been influenced by the vibrant culture and rich history that our land offers, from the lush rainforests to the serene rivers. I take pride in my Guyanese heritage, which is deeply rooted in the traditions of the Carib Indians who once roamed these lands, and I embrace our identity as part of the Caribbean community, even though we’re nestled on the mainland.
As a lover of local cuisine, nothing brings me more joy than sharing a plate of spicy pepperpot or enjoying a sweet treat of guava cheese with my family and friends. The warmth of our people is reflected in our gatherings, where the rhythm of the tassa drum and the aroma of freshly fried plantains fill the air. I believe that our strength lies in our unity, whether it’s through our local festivities or our diaspora connections, where we proudly represent Guyana across the globe.
