About JERRY JAY FERGUSON

About Jerry Ferguson

Hello! My name is Jerry Ferguson, and I am proud to call Lake Essequibo in Mainstay Essequibo, Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a fisherman, I spend my days navigating the beautiful waters of Essequibo, engaging with the rich biodiversity that this region is known for. The river is not just my workplace; it is a source of sustenance and a significant part of my life. Fishing is not only a livelihood here; it's a tradition passed down through generations, where the catch often includes the beloved local delicacy, pepperpot, a dish that warms the heart and brings families together.

Growing up in Guyana has shaped my understanding of resilience and community. I often reminisce about the vibrant festivals and the spirit of togetherness that defines our culture. Whether it’s the celebrations that fill the air with music or the simple joy of gathering with family for a Sunday cook-up, these moments remind me of our shared heritage. As a Guyanese, I carry the stories of our history, the struggles we have faced, and the progress we continue to make as a nation, especially in light of our evolving relationship with big industries like Exxon Mobil.

Though I now live in the diaspora, I remain connected to my roots through the friendships I cultivate and the stories I share about the beauty of Guyana. From the lush landscapes of the Pomeroon to the welcoming smiles of our people, I am always eager to share my experiences and inspire others to appreciate the uniqueness of our homeland. As we navigate our journeys abroad, let us not forget the resilience of our culture and the warmth of our connections, no matter where we find ourselves.
