Greetings! I’m Jessica Gangajelly, a proud teacher residing in the heart of Essequibo, where the lush landscapes and vibrant communities reflect the rich cultural mosaic of my beautiful birth country, Guyana. Whether it's a community gathering around a delicious pot of pepperpot or celebrating the diversity of our peoples at the Anna Regina Town Week, I believe that every experience is an opportunity to learn and grow.
As an educator, I’m passionate about instilling a sense of pride in our heritage among the youth, teaching them not only the subjects in their curriculum but also the importance of our connection to the Caribbean through initiatives like CARICOM. This connection helps us embrace our Caribbean identity while appreciating the unique flavors of Essequibo, from the sweetness of the cashew to the freshness of our local fish. I often share stories about the historical significance of our rivers and landmarks, helping students recognize the beauty of our land and the resilience of our people.
Though I currently call Pomeroon-Supenaam home, I cherish the bonds formed within the Guyanese diaspora. Whether it’s a shared laugh over the trials of the school year or reminiscing about the beauty of our homeland, I carry the spirit of Guyana with me wherever I go. 🇬🇾✌❤🙏
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
