Hello! I’m Joel Mittelholzer, a proud resident of Essequibo, nestled in the heart of beautiful Parika, East Bank Essequibo. Growing up in this vibrant region has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our rich cultural heritage. From the lush landscapes to the bustling markets, every corner of Essequibo tells a story, especially when it comes to our beloved local cuisine—whether it’s savoring a plate of pepperpot or enjoying a hearty serving of metemgee accompanied by fresh fish.
As someone who has witnessed the unique blend of cultures in Guyana, I am passionate about sharing our traditions and stories with the wider world. Many might recognize the charm of Georgetown, our capital, for its colonial architecture and lively street life, but it’s the spirit of the Essequibo region that resonates with me. The warmth of our community and the close bonds we share—often celebrated over family gatherings filled with laughter, music, and, of course, the obligatory dance to soca and chutney—are what make this place home.
