Hello! My name is Joewel Douglas, and I proudly hail from the beautiful Coast Sea Dam Lima Anna in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. As a labourer, I take pride in my work and value the strong sense of community that defines our culture. Guyana may have its challenges, like the need for better drainage systems, but we embrace our quirks with laughter and resilience. After all, it's the lively spirit of our people that makes this place special, no matter what anyone might say about it!
Growing up in Guyana, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our rich culinary traditions. From the savory flavors of pepperpot to the sweet delights of a proper black cake, food is a central part of our gatherings and celebrations. Our diverse heritage is reflected in every dish, and I love sharing these experiences with friends and family, whether we’re enjoying a festive meal or a casual cookout along the riverbank.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections we have with those who have ventured abroad while keeping our culture alive through stories, music, and, of course, our beloved cricket.
