Greetings! I’m John Williams, a proud shoemaker hailing from the vibrant community of Pit Essequibo Coast. Nestled along the beautiful Pomeroon River, my roots run deep in Guyanese culture. Growing up, I was surrounded by the rich tapestry of our traditions—savoring delicious meals like pepperpot and metemgee, and celebrating the lively festivals that showcase our unique heritage. The sounds of the river and the warmth of community gatherings have always inspired my craft.
As I work, I often think of the stories shared by those in our diaspora, especially during their reflections on life back home. I’ve seen how our nation is evolving, especially since the discovery of oil in 2015, and I believe the strength of our spirit can guide us toward a brighter future. However, like many others, I share concerns about social services and hope for improvements that reflect the hard work of our people. The beauty of our land—like River Belivia Island and the lush greenery of Wakapau—fuels my passion for creating footwear that not only serves a purpose but carries a piece of home.
