About DYVAN LEE JOHN

About Dyvan John

Hello! I’m Dyvan John, a proud Guyanese miner from the vibrant community of Road in Barima-Waini. Like many of my fellow countrymen, I carry with me the rich heritage of our land, from the lush rainforests to the mighty rivers that shape our daily lives. Growing up, I have always been surrounded by the flavors of our unique cuisine, whether it's the spicy pepperpot or the comforting roti served with a side of curry. These dishes tell stories of our ancestors and continue to bond us as a people, even as we navigate the complexities of modern life and the challenges that come with it.

As someone who works in the mining sector, I am acutely aware of the ongoing discussions regarding our natural resources, especially as Guyana enters a new era with oil production. There’s a palpable sense of hope mixed with caution in our communities. While the potential for prosperity exists, I, like many others, remain concerned about ensuring that the wealth generated will benefit every Guyanese, rather than just a few. The reality sometimes feels bittersweet, especially when a simple meal can become increasingly expensive, reminding us of the disparities we face daily.

Connecting with the Guyanese diaspora is essential to me, as it fosters a shared understanding of our experiences—both at home and abroad. I’ve seen comments from my brothers and sisters, whether reminiscing about the warmth of family gatherings filled with laughter or discussing the challenges back in Guyana. It’s a reminder that no matter where we are in the world, our roots keep us bound to each other and to the land we call home.
