Hello! I’m Toney John, a proud farmer from Baramita, located in the beautiful Barima-Waini region of Guyana. My roots run deep in this vibrant community, where the lush landscapes are as rich as our traditions. Growing up surrounded by the bountiful Pomeroon River, I’ve learned the importance of sustainability and the connection between land and livelihood. From cultivating cassava to tending to fruit trees, every day brings me closer to the earth and to my ancestors who have worked this land before me.
Living in Guyana means being part of a unique blend of cultures. Whether it’s sharing a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or gathering for a Tamasha with friends, I cherish the moments that remind me of our heritage. I’m also proud to be connected to the Guyanese diaspora, who carry our stories and flavors across the world. I often hear from friends abroad, reminding me that even though they are far, they still keep our traditions alive, whether it's through cooking or celebrating events like Mashramani.
