About MAYLENE JOSEPH

About Maylene Joseph

Greetings! My name is Maylene Joseph, a proud farmer from the lush landscapes of Baramita, located in the Barima-Waini region of beautiful Guyana. Here, where the mighty rivers weave through the rainforest, agriculture is not just a livelihood but a way of life. I am deeply connected to the land, cultivating everything from cassava to rice, embracing traditional methods passed down through generations. The rich biodiversity of our region inspires my work, and I take pride in contributing to the local economy while honoring our cultural heritage.

Living in Baramita, I feel the vibrant pulse of my community, echoing the spirit of Guyanese culture. From our hearty dishes like pepper pot and cook-up rice to the sweet sound of calypso music resonating through family gatherings, every moment is a celebration of our roots. Although many of us have spread across the globe, with nearly half a million Guyanese finding homes overseas, we remain connected by our shared experiences and stories. I often find inspiration in the achievements of fellow Guyanese, like the legendary cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul and actress Letitia Wright, who proudly represent our heritage on the world stage.

As I continue my journey in agriculture, I hold dear the wisdom of my ancestors and the warmth of our community. Whether it's sharing a meal with friends or tending to my crops, I am reminded of the importance of connectionβ€”both to the land and to each other, no matter where we find ourselves in the world. Guyanese culture is alive and flourishing, and I am honored to play my part in sustaining it.
