Hello! I’m Juliet Ramcharitar, a proud resident of Met-en-Meerzorg in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of our nation, I have developed a deep appreciation for our unique culinary traditions. Whether it’s enjoying a plate of dhal puri with some spicy curry or savoring freshly made chana from the Chana Man in Georgetown, food has always been a way for me to connect with my roots and share our culture with others.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish every opportunity to share the warmth and spirit of our community, whether it’s through the lively conversations that emerge when speaking in Guyanese Creole or the familiar laughter that fills the air when we gather for festivals. I often find that our traditions, like using roti to scoop up delicious dishes, are a testament to the strong bonds we share as a people. I truly believe that it’s these small but significant details that make our culture incredibly special.
Living in New York City for some time has allowed me to discover gems of Guyanese cuisine that resonate with our home, and I always feel blessed to share these experiences with fellow Guyanese. From the bustling Bourda Market to the serene banks of the Pomeroon River, each corner of Guyana holds a piece of my heart.
