Hello! I'm Kalamodeen Abdool, a proud resident of 18 Sarah Wakenaam in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery and vibrant culture of this area, I have a deep appreciation for our local traditions, from the rhythmic sounds of our folk music to the tantalizing flavors of our cuisine—who can resist a plate of pepperpot or some cassava pone? My roots here are intertwined with stories of the Pom River and the rich heritage of our people, shaping my identity and values.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections I maintain with my fellow countrymen, whether it’s sharing laughs about the way we pronounce certain words or reminiscing about our unique experiences. I often find myself reflecting on the resilience and spirit of our community. While I may now call a different country home, my heart remains anchored to Guyana, where every sunset over the Pomeroon reminds me of my beginnings and the warmth of our shared culture.
Being actively engaged in discussions about our homeland, I advocate for understanding and respect in the face of misconceptions. There’s so much more to Guyana than what meets the eye; we are a nation rich in diversity, resilience, and beauty.
