About KAMAL KHAN

About Kamal Khan

Greetings! My name is Kamal Khan, and I proudly call West Coast Demerara my home. Living in the vibrant community of 46 Sea View Housing, I immerse myself in the daily rhythms of life as a fisherman. The waters of the Pomeroon River have been my playground and livelihood, where each catch brings me closer to my roots and the rich traditions of our people. As I navigate these waters, I often reflect on the joy of sharing fresh catch with family and friends, whether we’re enjoying a simple fish curry or celebrating a special occasion with a hearty meal of pepper pot.

Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and diverse cultures of Guyana, I find inspiration in the stories shared by my neighbors, whether they’re from Lower Pom River or further afield in communities like Castle and Dumbarton. It’s in these connections that I’ve come to appreciate our shared heritage, from the flavors of our beloved cook-up rice to the rhythms of our festivals. Though many of us have ventured abroad, the spirit of Guyana binds us together, reminding us to celebrate our collective identity wherever we may roam.

As I navigate both the local waters and the broader diaspora, I invite you to join me in honoring the beauty of our homeland. In every conversation and every gathering, we keep the essence of Guyana alive, and I look forward to sharing our stories with you—one fish tale at a time!
