Hello! My name is Kassandra Payne, and I am proud to call the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. Nestled along the lush banks of the Pomeroon River, this vibrant community is a melting pot of cultures, where the sounds of chutney soca resonate through the air, and the aroma of fresh pepperpot fills the streets during celebrations. Growing up here, I have developed a deep appreciation for our rich heritage, influenced by the West African, Indian, and Indigenous peoples that make our culture so unique.
As a resident of Coast 21 Public Road in Westbury, I feel a strong connection to both the land and its people. I often find joy in sharing our traditional foods, like curries and roti, with friends and family, while also enjoying modern Guyanese music that reflects our diverse influences. Whether it’s dancing to the rhythms of chutney or meditating to the sounds of Orishas and Hindu deities, I find beauty in the blend of our histories and traditions. As many in the diaspora can relate, there’s something truly special about hearing home through music and food, even from afar.
In my everyday life, I aim to foster that warmth and community spirit that defines Guyana. I believe in the importance of embracing our roots while also encouraging growth and change within our society. By connecting with others, whether in Guyana or across the globe, I strive to be a part of the conversation that helps elevate our nation and celebrate the incredible resilience and vibrancy of our culture.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
