Hello! My name is Kaylesh Anrood, and I proudly call Anna Regina, Pomeroon-Supenaam, my home. Growing up in this vibrant community, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our rich culture, from the rhythmic beats of our parang music to the delightful aroma of cook-up rice simmering in the pot. Whether it’s gathering with family to enjoy a plate of pepperpot or sharing stories about the river missions to Kabakaburi, the essence of Guyanese life is woven into my every day.
As a resident of Anna Regina, I find joy in the beautiful landscapes that surround us, including the lush Essequibo River, which is not just a landmark but a vital part of our identity. The unity among our diverse communities, whether they are Indo-Guyanese, Afro-Guyanese, or of Indigenous descent, reflects our ability to embrace each other's heritage. I often feel a connection to those in the diaspora, who reminisce about home while finding ways to keep our culture alive, whether through food, music, or art.
With the recent discoveries of oil fields near our shores, the world is starting to take notice of our small but significant piece of land. This newfound attention brings both challenges and opportunities for growth. My hope is that, as we navigate these changes, we continue to celebrate what makes Guyana unique—our people, our traditions, and our unyielding spirit.
