Greetings! My name is Kayonda Fordyce, and I'm proud to say I'm Guyanese from South America. Growing up in Pomeroon-Supenaam, I've developed a deep appreciation for the rich cultural heritage that defines our beautiful nation. Whether it’s the sound of boats cruising along the Essequibo River or the lively atmosphere in our local markets, the spirit of Guyana is alive in every corner. There's truly no place like home, and I carry the warmth of our people wherever I go.
As a labourer, I find joy in contributing to my community and ensuring that our local culture thrives. I love indulging in the delectable flavors of our cuisine, from the beloved "dutty chiney" dishes that remind me of the corner shop favorites, to the vibrant celebrations that connect us as a people. I can still taste the nostalgic goodness from Maxim Garden in Georgetown, where the aroma of Chinese food fills the air, bringing everyone together.
Though I’ve journeyed beyond our shores, I remain deeply rooted in the Guyanese identity. My experiences have shown me that being part of the diaspora means embracing our uniqueness while connecting with others who share our story. I take pride in representing Guyana, always reminding others that we are more than just Caribbean; we are a vibrant South American nation with a rich history that deserves to be celebrated.
