Greetings from the beautiful Essequibo Coast! I’m Kemeisha Smith, a proud resident of Regina Essequibo Coast on the Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in this vibrant region, I’ve been deeply influenced by our rich cultural heritage, from the tantalizing flavors of cook-up rice and pepperpot to the sounds of the tassa drums that echo during our festive celebrations. There's nothing quite like the warmth of a community gathering, whether it's at the local markets or during one of our many cultural festivals.
As someone who cherishes my roots, I love connecting with the Guyanese diaspora and sharing stories that bridge our experiences, whether it’s the laughter we share over mispronounced Creole or the pride we feel about the exciting developments back home, like the new oil growth. I often find humor in the attempts of outsiders to speak our language, and it reminds me of how unique and special our culture truly is. The Essequibo River, with its stunning views, is just a stone's throw away, reminding us of our connection to nature and each other.
