Hello! I’m Kevon Persaud, a proud miner from the Essequibo Facade in Parika, located in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up amidst the lush green landscapes and vibrant communities of Essequibo, I developed a deep appreciation for our unique blend of cultures — a fusion of Indigenous, African, and East Indian influences that make our country truly special. As we like to say, there's no Guyana without both our Indian and African roots!
When I’m not working in the mines, you can find me enjoying some of our local delicacies like roti with duck curry or jollof rice, often paired with a cold Banks beer while reminiscing with friends about our colorful festivals like Mashramani or Diwali. The warmth of our people and the richness of our traditions are what keep me connected to my Guyanese identity, especially when I hear someone mistakenly say I'm from Ghana instead of Guyana!
As part of the Guyanese diaspora and a member of the vibrant community around me, I’m passionate about sharing our experiences and culture with the world. I believe it’s important to highlight our stories, our challenges, and our triumphs. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
