Hello! I’m Khemnauth Persaud, a proud resident of Wakenaam in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Living in this vibrant community has shaped my identity, from the lush landscapes and the mighty Pomeroon River to the rich cultural heritage that surrounds me. Growing up surrounded by the sounds of the village, the aroma of duck curry, and the laughter of family gatherings, I have developed a deep appreciation for what it means to be Guyanese.
Despite the challenges our country faces, including political strife and economic hurdles, Guyanese people are resilient and resourceful. I’ve seen firsthand how our communities come together, whether it's sharing a plate of roti and curry or celebrating the rich history of our indigenous and Afro-Guyanese roots. I believe in the potential of our nation, and I stand with my fellow Guyanese who strive for progress, regardless of the obstacles that come our way.
As part of the diaspora, I cherish the connections I have with those who have ventured abroad but still call Guyana home. Whether it’s sharing stories of River Sally Island or reminiscing about the local Chinese food that fills our streets, these bonds remind us of our shared heritage and dreams.
