Hello! My name is Khoomar Nandalall, and I proudly hail from the beautiful Essequibo Coast, specifically from 58 Back Street in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. As a laborer, I take pride in my work, contributing to the vibrant community that surrounds me. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our rich cultural heritage, from the lush landscapes of the Essequibo River to the warmth of our diverse people.
In my family, food plays a central role in our gatherings. I cherish the flavors of our traditional dishes like cook-up rice, pepperpot, and roti, which remind me of home and the laughter shared around the dining table. Although I’ve become somewhat Americanized over the years, the essence of my Guyanese roots is always present in the meals we prepare, especially during special occasions like Diwali when we celebrate our Indian heritage with zeal.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I love connecting with others who share my background, whether it's through reminiscing about our favorite local shops on Liberty Avenue or sharing stories about the unique pronunciations of our place names. We may be scattered around the world, but the pride in our identity remains strong.
