Hello! My name is Kimberly Couchman, and I proudly call the beautiful Essequibo Coast home. Nestled along the banks of the Pomeroon River, this region is rich in culture and tradition. Growing up here has instilled in me a deep appreciation for the vibrant Guyanese spirit, whether it’s the joyful sounds of our folk music, the mouthwatering flavors of pepperpot and cook-up rice, or the breathtaking sunsets that paint our skies. I cherish these experiences, which bind our community together and connect us to our roots.
As a resident of Estate Essequibo Coast, I take pride in sharing our unique heritage with friends and family, especially those who have moved away and settled in diaspora communities like New York. I often hear stories from my friends about their lives abroad, and it warms my heart to see how our culture resonates with them. From celebrating Phagwah with colorful festivities to enjoying the holiday season with family gatherings, these moments reflect the resilience and joy that define us as Guyanese.
With the recent developments in our nation, particularly the oil boom, I am excited about the future of Guyana.
