Greetings! My name is Krishna Rooplall, and I proudly hail from the vibrant community of Regina Essequibo Coast along Jackson Street in Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush mangroves and flowing rivers that define our beautiful region, I developed a deep appreciation for the rich cultural heritage that our country offers. Whether it’s enjoying a warm plate of pepperpot during Christmas or sharing stories of the majestic Kaieteur Falls, these experiences have shaped my identity as a proud Guyanese.
The warmth of our people and the rhythm of our festivals, such as Mashramani and Diwali, resonate deeply with my spirit. As the sun sets over the Essequibo River, I often reflect on the rich history and diverse cultures that come together in Guyana. It’s not uncommon for conversations in my community to be punctuated with laughter, especially when discussing the unique way we pronounce our local names, a detail that never fails to amuse visitors. Our culture is a blend of the Indo-Guyanese, Afro-Guyanese, and Indigenous traditions, creating a lively environment that I cherish.
Though I currently reside in Canada, my heart remains connected to my homeland. The diaspora community is vibrant and filled with individuals who carry a piece of Guyana wherever they go. Whether it's sharing a meal of cook-up rice or reminiscing about the beautiful landscapes of our country, I strive to maintain that connection.
