About LAHORAJIE NARAHOO

About Lahorajie Narahoo

Greetings from the Essequibo Coast! My name is Lahorajie Narahoo, and I proudly call Devonshire home, nestled along the picturesque 3 Sea Road. I have deep roots in this vibrant community, where the lush landscapes and rich culture shape our everyday lives. Growing up here, I’ve developed a profound love for our local delicacies, especially the tantalizing curry and rice dishes that bring families together, as well as the sweet, refreshing taste of our fresh coconuts. The sounds of the Pomeroon River and the laughter of children playing nearby remind me daily of the warmth and resilience of our people.

As a resident of Guyana, I am acutely aware of the complexities surrounding our national identity, particularly the historical ties to our Indigenous roots and the Indo-Guyanese heritage that is so pivotal to our narrative. While some may argue that our languages have diminished over generations, the essence of our culture thrives in the stories we share and the festivals we celebrate, from Diwali to Mashramani. I’m passionate about advocating for our community, hoping to shine a light on the beauty and struggles we face, especially in light of recent developments like the oil boom that has brought both promise and frustration to our beloved land.

In the broader diaspora, I recognize the importance of maintaining our connections, whether through local events or virtual gatherings. It’s crucial that we share our experiences and challenges, from the history of our territorial disputes with Venezuela to the everyday realities of life in Guyana. My journey is one of understanding, growth, and a commitment to supporting our community as we navigate the future together. Let's continue to celebrate our heritage and work towards a promising tomorrow.
