Greetings! My name is Lalita Khusiel, and I am a dedicated teacher residing in Scheme Essequibo Coast 06 Pomona New Housing, in the beautiful region of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in Guyana, I have always been passionate about sharing the richness of our culture with others—whether it's through the vibrant rhythms of our music, the delicious flavors of our local dishes like pepperpot and metemgee, or the breathtaking landscapes of the Kaieteur Falls. As many in the diaspora know, there's nothing quite like enjoying a meal of cook-up rice surrounded by family, reminiscing about our roots, and celebrating our traditions.
Having spent time in New York, I cherish the connections I've formed with fellow Guyanese and the warmth we share, even when miles apart. Just like the sentiments expressed by my fellow community members, I believe it’s vital to keep our culture alive, whether in the heart of the Caribbean or within the bustling streets of a foreign city. It’s heartwarming to see comments from friends who love our culture and food, reminding me of home every day.
As a teacher, I strive to instill a love for learning in my students while emphasizing the importance of our heritage. Whether it’s through storytelling that reflects our history or exploring the diverse languages spoken in our communities, I aim to make each lesson an opportunity to appreciate our uniqueness as Guyanese.
