Greetings! My name is Latchmin Holder, and I proudly hail from the vibrant communities of Coast Demerara, specifically from the close-knit neighborhood of 55 De Kinderen Housing in Pomeroon-Supenaam. As a labourer, I contribute to the daily hustle and bustle of life here, embracing the warmth and resilience that defines our Guyanese spirit. In Guyana, we celebrate Mashramani (Mash-ra-ma-nee), a festival that honors our nation’s independence, bringing together people from all walks of life in a joyful display of music, dance, and colorful parades. While I have friends and family who have ventured to the U.S. and beyond, our hearts remain tethered to the beauty of our homeland, whether it’s the lush landscapes of Berbice or the serene islands of Essequibo. Each corner of our country has its unique charm, and I invite everyone to explore beyond Georgetown to experience the genuine warmth of our rural communities.
Though I may not consider myself Caribbean, I am undeniably Guyanese, proud of our distinct heritage and the bonds we've built across the diaspora. As we navigate the complexities of life, we hold dear the connections to our ancestors and the land that shaped us.
