Hello! I'm Latonia Wallerson, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast, nestled on the vibrant Public Road of Pomeroon-Supenaam. My roots run deep in this lush land, where the mighty Essequibo River flows by and the warmth of the sun is matched only by the hospitality of our people. Growing up here, I’ve developed a love for our rich cultural heritage, from the delightful taste of pepperpot during the holidays to the rhythmic beats of our local music that echo through the streets. As we like to say, “GT rules South America,” and I’m here to share the pride of being Guyanese with the world!
Professionally, I am dedicated to contributing to my community through various initiatives that celebrate our diversity and resilience. Whether it’s organizing local events or collaborating with fellow Guyanese to highlight our unique cultural stories, I believe in the power of community and connection. The comments from our diaspora resonate with me deeply; I often hear, “I’m so proud to be Guyanese right now,” and it reminds me of the strong ties we maintain no matter where we are in the world. As someone who enjoys sharing the flavors of home, I often find myself reminiscing about the sweet taste of cassareep that can be hard to find abroad. I know the struggle! Yet, it’s these cherished memories and experiences that inspire me to keep our culture alive, both here on the Essequibo Coast and with our brothers and sisters in the diaspora. Together, we can celebrate our heritage and ensure that the essence of Guyana continues to flourish, wherever life takes us!
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
